Grade smearing can occur when a small high grade interval is used to increase the grade of a wider interval, that may be very low grade on its own.
This can change the nature of the deposit; from a narrow vein high grade mine to a lower cost bulk mining scenario. However the bulk mining itself may be marginal if not for the high grade "including" intervals that boost the entire interval grade.
In the App, the light shaded cells represent the input cells.
-
Main Interval: is the length and grade(s) of large interval being reported.
-
Including: are the length and grade(s) of the various highlighted zones.
-
Remainder of Intercept: is the length and average grade(s) outside the highlighted zones.
